RHSAA Scholarship Application and Guidelines
Introduction
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE. The Riverside High School Alumni Association Scholarship Program is dedicated to helping empower the students of Riverside High School in achieving their dreams of higher education by offering financial assistance to qualified applicants seeking degrees from an accredited educational institution of higher learning in their field of choice.
When is application due?
Eligibility Requirements

Who is eligible? The program is open to all Riverside High School students preparing to enter an accredited college, junior college, or university and pursing a post high school degree.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen under state residency statutes.
- Applicant must be a Texas resident at the time of high school graduation and during the period of award.
- Applicant must be identified as a candidate for graduation in spring of the year in which the application is submitted.
- Scholarships are open to any Riverside student entering or attending an accredited college, junior college, or university and pursing a post high school degree. Evidence of enrollment is required.
- Applicant must not have been judged delinquent, nor have been convicted or pled guilty or nolo contendere to any felony in any state.
- Applicant must not have been convicted of any second or subsequent alcohol or drug-related misdemeanor in any state within the past academic year.
- Applicant must not be in default or owe a refund or repayment on any Federal or State financial aid.
- Applicant must not be in default or owe any repayment to Riverside High School or the Ysleta Independent School District.
- Applicant must have a 3.00 final high school grade point average or higher based on the Uniform Grading Policy.
- Full-time and part-time studies are both eligible for consideration. Part-time studies, however, may affect your overall total award.
- Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or state of physical handicap.
- Riverside High School Alumni Association members holding elected or appointed offices, RHSAA Board Directors, along with members of their immediate family (regardless of membership in RSAA) are not eligible for these scholarships.
- Applicant may submit only one Application Form.
- Any fraudulent or misleading information will result in dismissal of the candidate’s application and is subject to investigation and repercussions in accordance with state and federal laws.
Terms of Eligibility

You may receive the RHSAA Scholarship for no more than two semesters and only during your initial year of college enrollment.
The period of eligibility to claim this award is prior to the end of the fall semester of the year you are awarded this scholarship. If there are extraneous circumstances where by the applicant cannot attend school in the fall semester but plans to enroll and attend in the spring semester, the applicant may petition the board of the Riverside High School Alumni Association by written letter of intent describing the circumstances and will be at the discretion and review of the board.

Award Amount
The number and set value of awarded scholarships are subject to the availability of funds through generous donations and are at the discretion of the Riverside High School Alumni Association and the Association’s Scholarship Committee. While we don't yet have the exact dollar amount and quantity of scholarships to be granted in 2022, we can tell you that in prior years we have awarded scholarships in the range of $500 to $1,500.

Award Disbursement
Dropping a Class or Withdrawing
Once you begin attending college classes, dropping a class or withdrawing may affect your potential refund. Depending on the withdrawal date, you might receive a portion of the total refund amount or none of the refund amount. If you are considering withdrawing or dropping classes, you should contact your college's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships before taking this action.

Application Evaluation and Selection Process

The monetary gifts from the Riverside High School Alumni Association Scholarship Program are awarded based on successful completion of the application process which includes:
All required scholarship application packet materials are online. All application documentation must be submitted online by 4 P.M. MDT on Friday, __________.
- The fully completed Scholarship Application Form (link available below).
- A résumé using the suggested template provided outlining educational background, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, work experience (if any) and hours, honors and awards, volunteer/community service experience and hours. Download the resume template here. You will be uploading your completed resume, please be sure to read additional directions.
- An essay addressing the prompt outlined on the Scholarship Application Form. View prompt here. You will be uploading your essay.
- The applicant’s latest available unofficial high school transcript.
- Up to three (3) letters of reference from individuals that are not relatives of the candidate. The letters of reference must address the suitability of the candidate for the award, nature of the relationship with the candidate and length of time of the relationship. It is best to start requesting these now; they will need to be uploaded.
All required scholarship application packet materials are online. All application documentation must be submitted online by 4 P.M. MDT on Friday, __________.
Terms and Conditions
All decisions of the Riverside High School Alumni Association and the Scholarship Selection Committee are final.
The name(s) of scholarship recipient(s) and their photos will be used for publication on RHSAA website, its social media affiliates, and in future publications as deemed appropriate. All materials submitted for consideration for a scholarship automatically become the physical property of RHSA and will not be returned to the sender. All information submitted will be used by the Association solely for the purpose of determining recipients of the awarded scholarships, except for the information outlined in Item 2 of the Terms and Conditions section of this document. By applying for this award, you are agreeing to the aforementioned terms and conditions and scholarship guidelines. |
Instructions (you need the Prompt, so read this in entirety)

Are you ready to start? You will need the items below, so start working on them now. If you have them as digital files, appropriately named, and ready to upload, you may proceed to the next page.
- Unofficial Transcript. Ask your counselor for an unofficial transcript. You will need to upload it.
- Résumé. Upload your résumé. We strongly suggest you use the template provided here. The file format must be in either a Word .doc file or in .pdf format. PDF is preferred. Use the following naming convention for your resume: RHSAA_ScholarshipResume_2020_FirstName_LastName.
- Letters of Reference. You may upload up to three (3) typed letters reference. These need to be from individuals that are not relatives of the candidate. The letters of reference must address the suitability of the candidate for the award, nature of the relationship with the candidate and length of time of the relationship. These will be uploaded. Use the following naming convention: RHSAA_Reference1_2020_FirstName_LastName, RHSAA_Reference2_2020_FirstName_LastName, etc.
- Essay. Provide a typed and formatted essay answering the prompt. You may review the prompt here. Use the following naming convention: RHSAA_ScholarshipEssay_2020_FirstName_LastName. The file format must be in either a Word .doc file or in .pdf format. PDF is preferred.
- NOTE: Do not use your name or other personal identifier in the content of your essay.
- Application Form. Complete the online Scholarship Application Form provided on the next page, and be sure to follow the naming convention for each file you upload.
